RAN-MI Provides Recovery Support for Individuals in Medication Assisted Recovery

Recovery Action Network of Michigan is working in partnership with Western Wayne Family Health Centers (WWFHC) to provide a recovery support group for individuals who value medication as a pathway of recovery. While medications such as methadone, vivitrol and buprenorphine are the standard of care for treating opiate use disorder, individuals who take these medications often face stigma within the recovery community. This discourages medication recipients from attending traditional 12-step meetings and finding recovery support in their communities. Medication Assisted Recovery Anonymous (MARA) was established in 2019 to provide a judgement-free fellowship that supports individuals who have a desire to live a safe lifestyle. While MARA is relatively new, most meetings are held virtually or are hosted in locations outside of Western Wayne County. RAN-MI is hoping to fill this gap in recovery support in our community by hosting a MARA meeting at WWFHC-Inkster location. The meeting gathers every Thursday at 4:30pm at WWFHC-Inkster at 2700 Hamlin Blvd. Anyone who values medication as means of recovery is welcome to attend the meeting. Efforts like this are a step in the right direction in de-stigmatizing substance use recovery and bridging the gap between the treatment community and the recovery community.
